Recently I had a person ask me if I did air conditioner service or repair. It seemed like a strange question because service, repair and maintenance of AC is what I do almost every day, so I said “it is all the same to me”. I do whatever is needed to get my customer cool as quickly and economically as possible and keep their unit operating. My training and experience allows me to maintain and service the AC unit, repair or replace about any part or component, and if unfortunately it is just a
ll wore out … replace the entire AC unit.
The most common AC repair I do is replacing capacitors. Since they quit using PCBs in the oil in the AC capacitor they go out more than any other part. Both the AC compressor and the condenser fan motor need one to run. They can go out gradually or all at once. When I do an air conditioning repair or service on a another problem, I always check the capacitor. Many times I find it starting to get weak, and then inform the homeowner. I let them decide if they want to replace it then or later.
